Ravenscroft Honors Engineering:

Donation Contraption Projects

Project Overview

Project Goal: Create a fun contraption that serves as an incentive to donate. Whenever someone donates, the contraption will be automatically and remotely actuated to reward the person for contributing. A recording of the contraption will be sent to the donor.

Project Background: There are many different examples of similar ideas in existence: coin donation spiral wishing wells, Kickstarter rewards, dunking booths, etc. All of these provide a fun reward for people's contributions. We want to create something in this spirit that brings joy to people for donating to a good cause. Donations will go to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.

Project Details: This project incorporates web development, software development, circuit design, and mechanical design to accomplish the goal. Throughout this project, students learned how to be resourceful and to think like an engineer. They learned how to apply the concepts they've learned and leverage resources at their disposal to create a unique project.

Competition Details: We are running a "competition" to see which team can raise the most funds for the Food Bank between Thursday, March 18th and Sunday March 21st. To contribute on a particular team's behalf, donate to the Food Bank, visit that team's website, and fill out their Google Form linked on their website. The team's contraption will automatically send you a custom video of their project to thank you for your contribution.

Team 3 decided to make a pachinko machine. Whenever someone makes a donation, it will activate the machine and release marbles to roll down the pachinko machine. The number of marbles dropped will correspond to the amount of money donated.
